H2O for N8! Full featured custom firmware! Lots of new N8 mods!

Hi guys, here it is, this is my first firmware for N8, even if we can still only modify the C DRIVE 🙂

I have decided to name it H2O, thus naming it after the successful N2O series of Custom Firmwares of firmwares for i8910, that I started publishing back in August 2009, and which has been downloaded million of times worldwide!

I hope you’ll appreciate this firmware, let me hear your feedback, your opinion, and your suggestions to make a better firmware, as soon as you have tested this one! 😉 I haven’t had much time to test it, so if you find any bug or problem, just let me know as soon as possible, and I’ll be glad to fix it as soon as I can 🙂

Here’s the list of the mods included in the firmware, lots of which have been adapted by myself for the N8!

MODS

  • More cpu time to alfappserver.exe
  • Hacked InstallServer! Thanks to CODeRUS
  • Full System Dir Access FileBrowser (Thanks to PNHT Team / Hx Team)
  • Theme Effects complexity reduced to speed up system
  • Music harvester will now only look in E:\\MUSIC\\|F:\\MUSIC\\ to speed up library refresh, note: you have to create the MUSIC folder manually 😉
  • Doubled MPX heap size
  • You can now use the dialer in LANDSCAPE
  • MediaPlayer’s percentage of max volume raised from 40% to 60%
  • Wlan wizard icon unlocked in menu!
  • HTTP cache set to Infinite and moved to RAM to avoid browser from easy crashes and to speed up navigation!
  • Voice Recorder max time set to 5 HOURS instead of 1!
  • Voice recorder quality set to High by default
  • Voice recorder kbps set to 256kbps instead of 128kbps!!
  • Max data object size set to 4096bytes
  • Added many folders to the blacklist for Gallery, so that you won’t see software icons and stuff like that in gallery
  • ADDED SHUTDOWN ANIMATION AND SOUNDS, DISABLED BY DEFAULT ON N8!
  • You can change Startup/Shutdown animations in C:/Anim/   (startup.gif, startup.mp3, shutdown.gif, shutdown.mp3) … You have to create the Anim folder manually 😉
  • Removed Default accessory connected notification —-> BY CODeRUS, thanks bro! 🙂

NEW CAMERA HACK:

  • Continuous autofocus (IT ONLY WORKS FOR SHORT DISTANCES, disable it to record videos of far objects!)
  • Video 30 FPS and bitrate lowered to 9Mbps for HD videos to allow LAGLESS video recording! (It will miss frames when going from short to far distance all at once, because the camera changes focus mode, but this is normal) 😉
  • IN VIDEO RECORDING —> AUDIO QUALITY SET TO 288kbps INSTEAD OF DEFAULT 128kbps!! (this does not mean you’ll get more than double audio quality of course 🙂 )
  • Picture quality set to 95 instead of 85 (photos will be bigger in size and more definite)

NEW NETWORK MOD

There is also a NetworkMod.sis package which you can find in C, which will set this options as default (PLEASE NOTE: INSTALL IT RIGHT AFTER FLASHING!!! AND REBOOT!!!):

  • Local Network set to ONLY WIFI (it won’t autoconnect to 3g anymore! 😉 )
  • Roaming network set to ONLY WIFI (it won’t autoconnect to 3g anymore! 😉 )
  • Wifi AutoSearch is DISABLED

I created this package because everytime I flash my N8 after 5minutes it autoconnects to 3G network, and makes me spend lots of money…with this patch I know that once I have flashed, I install that sis, reboot, and I’m ok, no more worries 🙂

NEW THEME MOD

  • Since the N8 is missing lots of icon skinning features at the moment I decided to give theme makers a hand, restoring some of the minor uid skinning for the icons that could not be skinned so far by theme makers on N8, such as the TOOLS folder, the WEBTV folder, and the LOGS icon in the homescreen. This means that with H2O, you’ll have those icons skinned with the theme icons, while on official fw or any other cfw not using my mods, those icons will stay default ones 😉

THEME

The theme is Aurora by BabiNokia, modified on purpose for H2O! (You’ll notice the H2O app loader in the upper right corner of your open applications 🙂 )

    Hi Faenil, I was just wondering if you plan to create a new firmware for the Samsung i8910 soon or is the N204 the last firmware update for i8910?

    if possible can you make another version with more focus on the animation- ie bigger frame-per-second..
    Or maybe make it user customizable with some patch or app?

    I’m going to try this firmware on my N8. However, before I do that and void my warranty, I just wanna ask, is there a way to revert back to original firmware if I don’t like this custom?

    First I want to say great work !

    I just have a question : Can the video autofocus option broke the N8 focus ?
    Because when I use it, the focus makes weird sounds.
    Is this option safe to use ?

    Is it possible to have th “cover flow” in the music player set to the Default screen that loads when going to “music”
    and is it possible to have the Cover flow show when looking at “Songs” instead of only when looking at Albums and the songs within them ??

    If so could i put a request in having you look into that for the future? 😀

    dopo aver istallato il fw custom ho perso le funzionalità del programma mod 1.1 che mi faceva fare le foto molto più grandi. c’è modo di reistallarlo?

    1. ciao certo puoi reinstallare il pacchetto per quella modifica, ma secondo me non ha senso perchè già a qualità 95 le foto sono perfette, non ha senso salire da 95 a 100 e salire da 4mb a 11…

      1. non ho ancora provato a fare un paragone, però le foto ora me le fa da 2 mb a 16:9 e provando ad installare quella modifica mi dice che è andato tutto a buon fine ma poi continua a fare foto a 2 mb anche dopo il reboot.
        cmq grazie di tutto 🙂

        1. prova a fare foto da 12mpx (4:3) devono essere di almeno 3mb…se è così allora la mia mod sta funzionando…

          ps dopo aver applicato il tuo pacchetto devi cancellare il file C:/private/10202BE9/persists/10282EDC.cre
          ma ricorda che se cancelli questo files e poi metti l’altra mod, se poi la disinstalli non avrai più neanche la mia mod…

    all’uscita di un agg fw ufficiale bisogna riflashare col fw di partenza e poi aggiornare o si può fare partendo da questo fw?

Hi I really appreciate your hard work creating a sis file, I’m kind of new in symbian modding but I used to hack iphone and different brands, of course with tutorials and practices you will get used to it, but you must work for Nokia dude, you and the other guys associated in different projects.
    You are great! thank you so much , the sis file is the best option to do the mod on ours N8, now a simple question and why this has not be done?
    I would like to remove the camera sound in my N8, can you create a sis file to do that, have you notice that there is no way with N8 to take a picture without alerting people around you? red light blinks and sound is heard , please at least create a sis file able to remove the capture sound, if anybody else has the same thinking please make a comment related to this topic.

        1. In Camera mode -> Options -> Settings -> Capture tone -> Camera 1, Camera 2, Camera 3, Camera 4, Off

          Choose ‘Off’, I don’t see how it’s possible that you don’t have ‘Off’ as a choice

      1. I posted in one of the wrong threads, for which I apologise but I don’t think it is unreasonable to put the same comment in both this thread and the mods thread as it is relevent for both. It hasn’t been resolved and other people may be having the same problems either with this CFW or with the modpack.

  24. Hey, Faenil! Thank you for the awesome CFW you gave us for the 11.012 version.. I tried to use the same UDA file on a 13.016 and nothing happens.. I mean, I flash it via Phoenix and everything turns out ok but when I get to the point of trying to install something unsigned, I get something like CERTIFICATE ERROR so ultimately that means that the CFW or the installserver didn’t kick in.. I keep wondering what it is..
    I’m dead tired trying to solve this so my best hope would be reinstalling the Nokia Firmware via Nokia Software Updater and THEN install your CFW. If you have any replacement for the v13.016 Product Code 059C8T6, it’d be AWESOME.

    Again, thank you for your time and I hope you do Excelent on your tests!

    1. the problem is I have never made a cfw for Nokia C7…
      I posted my H2O for N8 in nokian8forum.com ….

      it seems that the admins of the website copied my post to the C7’s forum and just changed all the “N8” to “C7″…thus creating a non existant cfw and links 🙂

  26. Hacked into nokia N8 with the hacked firmware using H20 – WIFI is showing access denial… but 3g connection is fine. and unable to connect to mail service server to check mail too. Pretty much the same with Ovi Store.
    Any ideas what i’m doing wrong with the WIFI?
